Genie II
OptiGene, an offshoot of OptiSense (a major development house of scientific instruments) produce a range of their own molecular diagnostic products.
The first in the range was the Genie II, a sophisticated, sensitive instrument that enabled the detection of bacteria and viruses at a molecular level. This powerful and extremely flexible platform allowed isothermal amplification of DNA and RNA to take place within a compact device.
The project was taken from initial user analysis and aesthetic casework concepts through to detailed mechanical design for the casework, internal assembly and optical sample block to produce a rugged, fully integrated unit.
The Genie II has recently been featured in both BBC and ITV documentaries as a weapon in the armoury against Ash dieback.
Michael Andreou, CEO of OptiGene:
"Apart from Neil Remington’s flair for producing attractive, eye-catching designs, he also appreciates the practical demands on advanced instrumentation. His understanding of ergonomics, engineering and attention to detail are major assets. Neil also has a wealth of experience in translating ideas into reality, and his knowledge of advanced prototyping and fabrication methods has been invaluable to OptiSense. I have no hesitation in recommending Remington Associates for all aspects of industrial design for any new product development"
